The BR-1600CD - Boss' 16-Track Digital Studio Multitrack Recorder
The BR-1600CD Digital Recording Studio is a 16-track multitrack that is high on quality but comparatively low on price. The Boss BR-1600CD is a professional-level, all-in-one recorder that is packed with specialized effects and mastering tools. The BR-1600CD comes complete with a built-in 40GB hard drive, CD-R/RW drive and USB port. The BR-1600CD is perfect for musicians and bands may not have the knowledge of a sound engineer but want to produce radio ready recordings.
The BR-1600CD has eight XLR inputs for recording eight tracks simultaneously, enough to record a whole band. The BR-1600CD features eight balanced quarter-inch jack inputs, a high-impedance jack for electric and bass guitars and co-axial S/PDIF I/O. The XLR inputs are also equipped with phantom power for using condenser microphones etc. On the output front the BR-1600CD has a single stereo output pair and two front-panel quarter-inch headphone sockets with independent volume controls.
The BR-1600CD makes recording as simple as possible by steering through the recording process one step at a time. The Boss BR 1600 CD has an easy to read back-lit LCD screen that provides you with instructions and advice. BR-1600CD is able to handle 16 tracks of simultaneous audio and an additional 16 virtual tracks per channel for alternate takes. All audio is recorded directly onto the very substantial 40GB internal hard-drive at the CD quality 16 bit resolution and 44.1kHz sample rate, with no data compression. An easy back-up can be performed by either burning directly onto the internal CD burner or through the USB outlet.
The BR-1600CD, in keeping with Boss' celebrated reputation for effects, comes with an impressive list of digital processing tools and effects. The BR-1600CD effects list includes; COSM for microphone, guitar and bass effects; built-in drum machine and bass loops; vocal pitch correction and harmonizing effects; Mastering Tool Kit to put the finishing touches on your recordings. The sound in every aspect of the recording process can be enhanced or improved through the BR-1600CD's range of effects. The BR-1600CD is ideal for those who want professional sounding recordings without having to pay the high studio prices to get it.

MOTU sneaks in MicroBook II post-NAMM, ships this Spring for $269 (Engadget)
Looking to add some muscle to your mobile recording kit? MOTU waited to pull
the curtain back on the MicroBook II until after NAMM, revealing a revamped
portable audio interface for those who fancy tracking on-the-go. The studio-
quality kit plays nice with both Mac and PC, offering a compact 4-input /
6-output, bus-powered recording option with 96kHz recording and playback
support. Sporting inputs for mics (XLR), guitar, keyboard and powered
speakers, the MicroBook II connects to your computer of choice via USB 2.0 and
boasts on-board volume controls. All four inputs can be recorded
simultaneously while internal CueMix tech allows for a unique stereo mix for
each output pair. Speaking of outputs, the dimunuative box houses six of said
channels alongside TRS 1/4-inch, stereo mini, S/PDIF, and 1/4-inch headphone
offerings. You'll have to wait until Spring to snag one, but for now hit the
PR after the break for a full list of specs.
