The PMC280 – The Professional DJ Mixer From Vestax
The Vestax PMC280 is an elite DJ Mixer comprising of 4 Channels with 16 adjustable effects. The PMC280 features a professional DSP effects unit that contains the variety to suit all DJ styles. The PMC280 also has an impressive sampling rate of 24-bit 96kHz that gives the mixer the responsiveness that is crucial to effective DJing.
The four-channel PMC280 mixer from Vestax has an array of input/output options on the rear interface. With two available options for master output, two sets of RCA outputs and one set of XLR outputs, this mixer is ideal for both the studio and club environment. Two separate microphone inputs are controlled by programming one or two channels on the top of the mixer. Located at channels 1 & 4 are the Phono inputs that allow two turntables to be connected. The PC280’s six line inputs are: two inputs on channels 2 and 3 and one input on channels 1 and 4. The line input on channel 4 can also be modified to be USB compatible in an optional upgrade.
Located on the top of the mixer is the full effects-control layout of the Vestax PMC 280. With 16 individual effects, controlled by two separate parameters for depth and dryness, each channel is assignable. The light-up tap effector manipulates the tempo of the effects and assists in sculpting the optimal sound. The cue area for track selection is located above the headphone jack, the channel cues are all available to the far right of the mixer and a fifth cue button for the effector tap is also included. Each channel has a full EQ setup with trim knobs at the top and a backlit display for sound monitoring.
The Vestax PMC280 has a classy, minimalist style look with a black mirrored finish and minimal colour used on buttons, knobs and controls. This colour scheme actually makes it easier to DJ in dark areas due to the light-up options and placement of all instruments. Because the Vestax PMC280 is such a compact unit it is perfect for DJs that need to move around.

How do you set up a home recording studio?
I want to know whats the equipment to have,
Pop Filter, Mic Stand, Mixer, Mic Preamp, Computer, Headphones, Shock Mount, Ummm... Connections would be, quarter inch adapters or RAC to whatever... I heard that you can connect to several other pieces of equipment other than a XLR mixer/preamp, is that true? Like a limiter/compressor, or a Mbox? i wanted to know how one could connect the compressor to the mbox to the mixer to the mic preamp or however one could connect all of them together, if that's at all possible.
Keep it simple - keep it simple - keep it simple.
You could get started with a simple USB mic and some free software for recording:

The next step up would be a USB interface and a mic:

A mixer is needed only if you plan to record more than one thing at a time. A preamp is generally NOT needed for the beginner. Remember that anything with a XLR mic input has a preamp (mixers, USB interfaces etc). You don't need a compressor to get started either - just watch your recording levels.
Keep it simple - keep it simple - keep it simple.
Alesis brings a pair of new musician-friendly iPad docks to NAMM (Engadget)
If there's been one must have accessory at NAMM this year it's been the iPad.
That's right, no mixer, instrument or microphone is stealing the show, it's
Apple's 9.7-inch slab of touchability that everyone is after. Alesis is just
one of many companies creating compelling musical offerings around the iOS
tablet with its latest products, the AmpDock and DM Dock. The DM Dock turns
your iPad into the thumping, bumping and crashing heart of an electronic drum
system. You can tap out rhythms and build drum sets with the touchscreen, but
it's when you start plugging triggers into the 13 1/4-inch inputs that it
really comes to life. The AmpDock, as you may have guessed, turns that A5
processor's attention towards your axe. There's a standard 1/4-inch jack as
well as a combo XLR / 1/4-inch plug for connecting a second guitar or a mic.
The AmpDock also has a separate pedalboard that allows you to control some
program parameters while keeping the tablet safe from stray stomps. Check out
the gallery below, as well as the video after the break.
