Guitar Tuners: What Is Best For YOU!
The electric guitar tuner is essentially a required item to anyone that is learning the guitar.
It is true that tuners are quite important to anyone who uses a stringed instrument but at this moment we are going to focus on guitar players.
There are many styles and shapes of tuners. Right now I'll explain the difference between the three main styles of guitar tuners.
The first style is the clipon tuner. This unique style of tuner is unique in that it doesn't use any electricity. It works by picking up the vibration of the plucked string through the instrument. With this style of tuner you simply do as the name says and clip it to your guitar.
The subtle vibration that the strings make while being plucked are picked up by the sensitive microphone, and translated into a simple to understand format so that you know which string was plucked and if the string needs to be loosened or tightened. Most clipon tuners can be purchased online for around $15
Style 2 of tuners is a pedal tuner. This type of tuner is often used used by professional guitarists or players as they are performing on stage. This tuner is so named because it uses a pedal that can be stepped on to turn the tuner off or on. When powered on the sound is received from the guitar though guitar cords similar to what you would plug into an amplifier. The tuners sensors are able to determine if the note you are playing is sharp or flat, and shows you what to change.
Many guitar players that use this tuner often have it coupled with other pedals on pedalboard that produce various sound effects. A great feature of this tuner is you can have it plugged in and tune while on stage without anyone knowing. This style often is a bit more costly, though it is absolutely worth it if you tune your guitar a lot. Many stores sell pedal tuners for around $80
Style 3 is a standalone unit that is often powered by batteries. It is often small, handheld, and can fit in your pocket. Tuning your guitar is simple, plug in a guitar cord into the tuners input jack and the unit will be able to determine what note you are playing and whether you need to adjust the tension of the string you are tuning.
A nice feature of this tuner is that they often come with a small sensitive microphone inside so that you can tune simply by playing near the tuner, because of this you do not need to plug any cords in. This style is amazing for new guitar players and many music stores sell these for around $25.
