40 watts VS 10 RMS watts (Panasonic vs Phillips)?
Comparison the Panasonic SC-HC30 to Philips MCM275, mcm277, dcm276)
Looking for a good wall mount stereo with CD and USB input.
The higher the RMS value the better the sound output. RMS does indeed stand for root mean square, which means the average value of the sound output, all squared, then the square root of that.
This is a technical way of saying the speaker's true performance. There is another figure called PMPO, or Peak Maximum Power Output, which is useless as this is the maximum power output the speaker can handle for about a microsecond.
The Panasonic is 40W RMS, so on the basis of loudness, it will beat the Philips hands down. The figure you also need to watch is THD, or total harmonic distortion. This gives you an idea of how accurately the speaker can reproduce a sound. On the Panasonic and the Philips this is identical (both 10%).
Go the Panasonic - you are getting a louder stereo with the same average distortion as a less powerful one, so it will sound crisper.
Fujifilm Makes The Glorious X-Pro1 Official (But Still No Price) (crunchgear?)
The veil has already been lifted on Fujifilm's new semi-pro interchangeable-
lens compact thanks to a French magazine with an itchy printer finger, but
here at CES, the camera has just been made official and all the gaps in our
information have been filled. Check out the official confirmation and some new
specs inside.
