AKG C214 Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone
If you need a high quality microphone that doesn't cost a bomb then AKG's C214 is definitely worth considering. The AKG C 214 was designed by AKG as an economical alternative to the market leading C414 microphone range.
The C214 performance quality nears that of it's renowned big-brother the C414 - at about half the cost - due to the combination of one side of the C414 dual-capsule system and AKG’s patented Back-Plate Technology. The AKG has an impressive versatility being as effective with softer sounds such as voice and orchestral instruments as it is with louder sounds like an amped-up guitar. If you need to capture vocals and speech, acoustic/electric guitars, piano and organ and a range of other instruments then the C214 is ideal. It's recommended for recording strings, such as double bass, violin or cello, and it also performs well on drums – particularly for overheads.
The C214 can cope with an impressive 143dB dynamic range with it's 1-inch edge-terminated large diaphragm capsule. It also contains an integrated capsule suspension that reduces mechanical noise and resonance, further improving sonic precision. The C214 has a high degree of RF-immunity due to the all-metal die-cast body that includes scratch and shock resistant finish and double mesh grille. The C214 Microphone has low self-noise, at just 13dB(A), along with very high headroom, and will work with phantom power sources ranging from 12 to 52V. Additionally, the microphone's headroom can be increased by 20dB by simply activating the pre-attenuation pad.
