home office, a workshop, a music studio and even adding a new

Is my health at risk by living in a building that still smells like smoke after a fire a week ago?
My building caught fire a week ago while I was actually moving my stuff in. My 2nd floor studio was not damaged by the fire, but it still smells like smoke throughout the whole building. I work from home, so I'm being exposed to the smell pretty much all day long. I suppose I'm not at risk of smoke inhalation since there's no more actual smoke, but I was concerned that my health might be in danger because of this lingering smell. Is it normal for a building to still reek of smoke after a week? Should I not even be staying in my studio while the smell is still here?
I'd be very wary. The smell you're smelling could very well contain dangerous things in it, or be a warning of other concerns.
Even beyond that, nobody should have to live with that kind of situation. I'd explain my situation to your landlord, and try to get out of your lease, especially since you just moved in, it should be reasonable to cancel the lease and get your money back. If the landlord balks, which I imagine might happen, I'd contact the city housing authority and explain the situation to them. They should be able to help you straighten out the situation. There's no reason you should be expected to live under those conditions!
