I think my wife has Borderline Personality Disorder. How can I Point Her Toward Treatment?
My wife seems to fit many of the criteria for BDP. She has never been diagnosed. Whether she has it, or doesn't does not matter because she needs help. She is angry and depressed and doesn't see it at all. She blames everyone but herself.
I know I can't force her into treatment but something has to change. How can I get her help?
She says she doesn't beleive in counselling and says there is nothing wrong with her (I never suggested she has BPD just that I thought that I wasn't the best one to talk about her problems with)
Well, first of all I commend you for understanding your wife's problem, I've worked with people with Borderline Personality Disorder and it does keep you on your toes. One of the significant symptoms that I know of with this condition is the ability to create chaos out of order. It can be very stressful for those around the person who has it.
My advice is for you to get into counseling first so you have a safe place to vent your feelings and learn how to best deal with the drama your wife creates. You cannot force your wife into treatment but maybe with gentle coaxing and acceptance, she may decide she wants help too. Good luck!
