Confetti And Other Celebration Accessories
Confetti originates from the Italian word for confectionery. It was an Italian ritual to toss almonds over a couple that had just tied the knot as they left the ceremony. This was done in the hope that it would bring fertility and prosperity to their lives. It is also believed that Pagans had a related tradition where they would use rice to stimulate richness.
Paper took over for other objects to avoid injuries from rice or almonds. Not much is known about the beginning of paper, but the first recorded instance of it being used was in 1885 for a New Year’s celebration in France where it was thrown of the crowds. The word spread fast as it hit shelves in several other nations by the 1900s.
Now, confetti it is so popular that it is the default party accessory. It comes in many forms. No matter what they are made of, we can find these party favors falling at many large events or gatherings.
Like any popular practice, many innovations have been in confetti delivery, namely, the confetti cannon.
Here is some info from the pioneer of confetti cannons and launchers:
The best known projectile launchers for confetti/streamers are Tyrone Reveen’s patented celebration launcher system. His invention has won awards and is the most renowned confetti cannon internationally.
Ty Reveen innovated the first Portable High Performance Confetti Cannon as well as a Streamer launcher intended to imitate the effects of fireworks. The idea was to mimic the jaw-droppping visuals of fireworks safely so the visual displays could be used indoors, from small parties to large concerts.

Sweet 16 -- Surprise enterance ideas?
We're giving my sister a surprise sweet 16.
When she enters, I want it to be more special than just yelling "surprise!"
I saw these AWESOME confetti "shooters" (kind of like mini confetti cannons that shoot confetti up to 15 feet), but the location does not allow confetti.
I was thinking a balloon bag that gets pulled on when she enters?
What are your thoughts?
Balloons are fun or maybe...
Friends lining her path
Have a hott escort her
Throw feathers
Line her path with sparklers
But like I said, balloons are fun!
Modern Family Recap: Competitive Spirit (New York Magazine)
"Aren't we all just fragile eggs hiding behind bubble wrap and bravado?" Leave
it to Manny to turn a simple school project into a statement on the human
condition. But then again, the egg is sort of a perfect metaphor for last
night's episode of _Modern Family_. It's a symbol of vulnerability and new
beginnings (see Phil's Gloria-assisted emotional breakthrough) even as it
hints at circularity (see Claire and Jay's "haven't we already seen this a
zillion times before?" competitive streak gone amok); it's a beacon of
fertility (see the potential adoptive mom whom Mitchell and Cam jump through
hoops to impress) and it's second only to the banana peel as an excuse for
comedy to go broad (see Claire slipping on Luke's broken egg as if she were
the fourth member of the Three Stooges). And also, maybe the egg is a
religious symbol, because it was absolutely a miracle that there was virtually
no inter-couple bickering in the entire episode. Hallelujah and amen.
It all starts with a school assignment: Manny and Luke must design a carton
that will keep a raw egg from breaking when dropped from a height of one
story. ...
