Nikon D50 Slr Digital Camera
INTRODUCTION
This is how I take advantage of and arrange a D50.
Want free live telephone support, 24 hours a day, three hundred and sixty five days a yr? In case you're within the USA, name (800) NIKON-UX! Nikon additionally has some of it's own operator's tutorials here.
I start off explaining things so merely my mother can understand, and get on to deciphering each menu item for superior users at the bottom.
For extra examples of why you'd wish to change these settings and why, also see my Maui Picture Expedition page.
BASICS:
CAMERA
Many of those adjustments require you to be in be in the P, S, A or M publicity modes. You set that on the highest dial. The cute preset modes often lock out some adjustments.
I go away most settings at their defaults and use the Program publicity mode. I never use the cute little preset icon modes as a result of I want to set anything special myself.
ISO: I take advantage of 200. If the light gets dim and my pictures would get blurry from slower shutter speeds I increase the ISO to 400, 800 or 1,600. I never trouble with in-between settings like 250 or 640. The D50 seems to be nice at ISO 1,600 if you happen to want it. I'd much relatively have a slightly grainy however sharp picture than a much less grainy however blurry one. Not like movie, the D50 seems nice at excessive ISOs, so I use them anytime I want them.
I would love to use ISO AUTO, but often do not because it also stays energetic in Manual publicity mode. This firmware defect defeats the purpose of the manual exposure mode. Utilizing menus to deactivate AUTO ISO for manual publicity mode takes more time than AUTO ISO saves. Rats.
White Steadiness (WB): I'd use AUTO and an 81A glass warming filter on the lens. I prefer hotter (oranger) images. I explain white balance on my White Steadiness web page and clarify extra about methods to modify it on the D50 later.
QUAL: I shoot JPG NORMAL. That is called NORM and L on the top LCD, which stands for NORMal JPG compression and Giant (3,008 x 2,000) image size.
I've made 12 x 18" prints of the identical shot made in BASIC, NORMAL, FINE and raw. I saw NO difference! Significantly, should you noticed these prints you would not be capable of kind them out either. I can see only the slightest differences on my monitor enlarged to 100%, which is similar to a 20 x 30" print, and my digital LCD monitor has 100% MTF pixel-to-pixel, which prints don't. Don't worry: should you want space, shoot BASIC and no one will see the difference. The only technique to tell is by looking on the file size.
I'll use BASIC for events and sports activities when I'm capturing many lots of and a whole bunch of photos at once. In these cases I am extra concerned with time wasted for the information to transfer, copy and archive. Basic appears to be like ninety nine% the same as FINE, even blown up big.
I'll use FINE on uncommon events where I am shooting only a few images and anticipate to see at them very closely. In these cases the extra measurement is not important if I anticipate to be spending a lot of time analyzing each image.
I avoid FINE JPG as a result of NORM provides me the same results, with half the file size. If I shot FINE I would run out of room on a card and miss a shot. Missing a shot is a really visible defect, and I see no defects in NORM. Nikon knows what they're doing. That is why they call it Normal and that is why I usually use Regular JPG.
OPTIMIZE IMAGE: I desire the vivid color I get from Fuji's Velvia 50 movie, so I tweak a D50 to offer coloration as vivid as I can get. To do that go to MENU > Capturing Menu (digital camera icon) > Optimize Picture > Customized > (set Saturation to + and Shade Mode to IIIa) > - - Carried out > OK. When you overlook to pick "- - Completed" and hit OK it will not bear in mind these settings! Details are on the Shooting Menu page.
For images of individuals I either set the colors back to normal, or cheat and use the Portrait preset mode on the highest dial.
FOCUS: AF.
METERING: Matrix.
LENS
Many lenses haven't any switches or settings. If that's the case, do not worry.
More superior lenses have focus mode settings, which will likely be either "M/A - A," or "A - M" on older lenses.
On older lenses I leave it at "A," which is Autofocus. "M" is guide focus. Typically you even have to maneuver the change on the camera, which is a pain.
If the switch says "M/A - A" then I use M/A. This offers autofocus, and if I seize the focus ring it instantly lets me make manual corrections. As soon as I faucet the shutter button again I get autofocus. This M/A setting, if the lens has it, provides each sorts of focus without ever having to move any switches . It is the best.
Non-G lenses will have an aperture ring the place the lens is connected to the camera. Set this this ring to the largest quantity, normally 22, if not 32 or 16. This quantity will likely be in orange on autofocus lenses. There usually is a lock to keep this ring set there, since if it comes off that setting you will get an error message from the D50.

XLR mic to my pc????
do you know if i get this adapter, i can hook my XLR mic to my pc?
http://musical-instruments-and-equipment.become.com/hosa-xvm400-series-adapter-cable-right-angle-male-minijack-to-male-xlr--compare-prices--c211300554
if not, what should i get to connect them together?
yes, the little part would go into the mic input jack on your computer like a normal microphone. Just make sure the bigger part is the right one for your microphone and that your microphone is female (holes) instead of male (pins) because that is what the adapters end is.
Study Confirms: News Networks Owned By SOPA Supporters... Are Ignoring SOPA/PIPA (Techdirt)
While the debates about SOPA/PIPA have been raging all over the internet, and
appearing regularly in all sorts of mainstream _newspapers_, they still have
been almost entirely absent from TV news. We've discussed this in the past,
noting that the major TV news players are all owned by media conglomerates who
have been major backers of SOPA/PIPA. There was some indication that cable
news was starting to pay attention... but things have gone quiet since then
(perhaps upper management sent out a memo...).
The folks over at Media Matters decided to check in on this and have confirmed
that the big TV news players have almost entirely ignored it, despite the
widespread controversy found elsewhere in the mainstream press:
> _ As the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) makes its way through Congress, most
major television news outlets -- MSNBC, Fox News, ABC, CBS, and NBC -- have
ignored the bill during their evening broadcasts. One network, CNN, devoted a
single evening segment to it. _
The report does note that there have been _articles_ online... but very few TV
segments. It also discusses how much attention SOPA/PIPA is getting,
concerning all the companies who have ...
